First SVHC Authorisation Application Update

Posted on: January 10, 2014

ECHA committees have processed and approved the first application to use a SVHC.

The committees for Risk Assessment (RAC) and Socio-economic Analysis (SEAC) have formed the opinion Rolls Royce plc., should continue to use DEHP (Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phthalate) on the basis that the application demonstrated the risks of using the substance to manufacture aero engines were adequately controlled and at this time there are no suitable substitutions available. However, the committees do recommend reviewing the application in seven years time. ECHA’s findings will be used by the European Commission’s to form their final decision (as in the case of all other present and future applications to use or import SVHCs).
