On April 2nd, 2020, the International Fragrance Association (IFRA) announced the extension of the implementation deadline of the 49th Amendment to the IFRA Code of Practice (CoP).

photo of a woman spraying perfume on wrist - Learn more about the IFRA deadline extensionThe 49th IFRA Amendment was published on January 10, 2020 (see prior blog) and included several changes such as new Categories of product types due to a new exposure model (QRA2), new ingredient Standards and revisions of older Standards. Due to the major changes, the timeframe for preparing and implementing the new Standards was set to be longer than the usual timeframe of implementation.

The recent events unfolding due to the global pandemic of COVID-19 however, have resulted in the disruption of the usual business environment, and have impacted the fragrance industry and the sustainability of the supply chain. In light of this unique global situation, and to accommodate its members, the IFRA Board has agreed to push back the implementation of the 49th Amendment by an additional three months from the originally set timeline.

What does this mean for you

  • New deadline to exchange information on bases among fragrance houses is August 10, 2020 (instead of May 10, 2020)
  • New deadline to exchange information on reformulations between fragrance houses and customers is November 10, 2020 (instead of August 10, 2020)
  • New deadline for compliance of new creations is May 10, 2021 (instead of February 10, 2021)
  • New deadline for compliance of existing creations is May 10, 2022 (instead of February 10, 2022)
