It is very likely that the Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) a downstream user receives from their supplier do not always meet the legal requirements under REACH and CLP. ECHA recently highlighted an initiative by the Inspectie SZW (Dutch Labour Inspectorate) for the realization of an SDS check to assist with this issue – the VIB check tool.
The VIB check tool is a web-based tool that is usable on both traditional browsers and mobile phones. It asks the user simple questions that take five minutes or less to answer. These answers are used to generate a report indicating potential issues with the SDS. It also gives the user the option to e-mail feedback to their supplier about the quality of the SDS.
The tool aims to improve the usability and coherence of SDSs and will be translated into English.
